Quick update

By ruth | January 7, 2008

Just a quick update as I’m quite behind on blogging.

We had a quiet ‘holiday season’; Dave even worked on Christmas Eve. We went out for a drink with Kate and Graham that evening, although almost all the bars were shut.

On Christmas Day we opened our stocking presents, then I cooked a huge breakfast (OK, Dave made the salsa and the guacamole); and we went for a walk by the sea to burn off a few of the calories. It started raining hard and cold before we got home, and soon started snowing.

Dave spent most of the day making desserts, and then we headed over to Nicole’s house for Christmas dinner with Nicole, Sam and Kim. It was delicious and convivial and Dave’s desserts went down a treat.

Boxing Day was hugely lazy, though we did venture out to South Granville to mooch around the shops and had lunch at Red Door - the ginger beef was gorgeous. We also discovered Meinhardt’s Fine Foods, which will be handy when we need specific ingredients, and discovered too late that it stocks chocolate coins, which we hadn’t been able to find. (Not to worry though - John saved Christmas by including some with our Christmas presents.)

We both worked Thursday and Friday; then spent the weekend exploring the North Shore ski hills, about which more later. Alice and Doug came over on Saturday evening to eat pizza and watch Andes to Amazon. Another day another dollar on Monday; a quiet uneventful New Year’s Eve; and New Year’s Day was another laze-fest, this time featuring brunch at The Naam.

Belated Christmas and New Year greetings to you both. Glad you had a great time. It’s always a catch-22 being away from friends and family, but the bonus is the new friends and experiences!

We went to Red Door for my birthday - it was fantastic! But I really hope they’ve stopped playing the utterly appalling music in the background? I think it was dance hits of the 80s when we were there? And not even credible dance hits!

Take care! Have you see Anke and Michael recently?
They seem to be ‘all quiet on the western front’ lately?
