Sociable weekend

By ruth | November 6, 2007

We had a very sociable weekend. On Saturday morning (after a jog!!) we phoned our respective parents, then after lunch we called on Doug and Alice and their brand new baby James. James is the teeniest person I have ever seen – I was quite fascinated by his fingernails. He slept deeply with a brief lunch break so there was no wailing to detract from the cuteness. Alice’s friend Allyson and her boyfriend Nelson also came by so we had a lovely chatty afternoon.

In the evening Dave and I went out to Maurya for food. It’s an Indian restaurant on Broadway with lovely high ceilings and swanky decor. The starters were really excellent, especially Dave’s chicken tikka which was just the right side of tender. The mains were disappointing though, especially the chicken jalfrezi, which had the texture of boiled meat. And I found it painfully spicy – it actually hurt, even though I only asked for medium spice. I’m not even especially sensitive to spicy food.

On Sunday we got some chores done and played lots of Xbox before going to the Granville Island Hotel for Jenn and Clark’s wedding. The ceremony was short and sweet; and then we mingled, ate pastries and burschetta and drank wine with a view up False Creek. We barely got to speak to the bride and groom, as is often the way, but they both looked lovely and seemed to be enjoying themselves – as indeed were we.
