Recovering post-Christmas

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

Christmas was lovely, but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn’t been ill. Just a cold, but a very bad, glandy, coughy, spluttery, miserable and long-winded one.

Sadly now Dave is ill – just in time for New Year… so I am trying to be as nice to him as he was [...]

Still ill – and wet

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004

I missed the Christmas party on Monday and went home feeling sorry for myself, having spent the majority of the day being a waste of space. I stayed at home yesterday, and slept quite a bit. Dave was off sick too, and in a worse state than me. However he got a bit better as [...]

Feeling bleugh

Monday, December 20th, 2004

I slept very badly, swollen glands and a tickly throat preventing complete relaxation.

I’m not ill enough to stay at home but I did feel very wobbly walking in to work this morning. I am being extra careful doing things like crossing roads. I am very much not with it. My head is very cotton woolly, [...]

£299 Sainsbury’s shop

Saturday, December 18th, 2004

Did the majority of our Christmas food and drink supermarket shop today in Sainsbury’s. We though we were being relatively careful to get good deals and buy the cheapest good quality stuff.

We bought a couple of discounted cases of wine and some beer, but nothing outrageously expensive. So when the final bill came to £299, [...]

Beating Easyjet’s price buckets

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

Some good advice on how to make sure you don’t pay over the odds when booking Easyjet flights is available on Dave’s blog.

Iceland

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

We’ve decided we are definitely going to Iceland in the summer, probably for about five days because Dave has to make sure he’s got enough leave for other things.

But what shall we do? We’re talking day trips from Reykjavik, and I’m thinking we’ll probably go on organised tours for ease and convenience. I think Reykjavik [...]

Boss attacked

Thursday, December 16th, 2004

On his way home from the Christmas party last night, my boss turned a corner and was attacked by a gang of youths.

He wasn’t able to get away from them so fought back. He didn’t realise, though, that they were armed. He got stabbed in the ear.
He’s coming in to work today with a bloodshot [...]

Party at London Aquarium

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

Last night the Evolution Christmas party was held at London Aquarium.

It’s a great venue for a party, though you do feel a bit incongruous in black tie clothes while gazing at fish. The main shark tank was the centrepiece for the evening, ad we spent quite a while watching (what I have now discovered were) [...]

Bulletproof Monk

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

I was wrong before: we saw Pitch Black on Friday, not Sunday. On Sunday, we watched Bulletproof Monk.

It was enjoyably watchable and non-challenging. I think if the ending had been better my whole impression of the film would have been better; as it was it left you thinking ‘Well – it wasn’t bad…’
It took me [...]

Joyce and Samara

Tuesday, December 14th, 2004

Daveigh Chase, who plays Joyce in Oliver Beene, also played the evil Samara in the American version of The Ring!

She was also Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko…
Such range. She’ll go far.
