This is an interesting article on Persistent Weak Layers. It’s written about the December 4th and January/Febuary layers that caused problems last year (Especially around April/May time when it seemed the whole mountain was falling down IIRC) a lot of what is written applies to this years issues too. Well worth a read if you’re interested in snow and avalanches.

There was so much evidence and information to be found about avalanches before this whole debacle started. It’s too bad people never read this sort of thing BEFORE going out…

It is a terrible shame people aren’t better educated about avalanches. 13 deaths in BC so far this season is a terrible loss
Yeah that last year and yes this rain crust layer caused a lot of problems in the spring time when people started spring touring. Looks like we’re having a similar layer (but scarier) this winter.
