Music to my ears

March 24th, 2007

Now we live in Vancouver (still getting used to that idea) we’re expecting (and looking forward to) a horde of visitors descending on us during the summer and (especially) the winter months.

The first people to take advantage of our new location were Stu & Rach and Simon, before Simon arrived we headed out to Tofino on Vancouver Island (more on that in the Canada blog soon) and then we went up to Whistler.

With a bit of ingenuity some tarp and a newly fitted roof rack we managed to get 5 people and all their gear into our Toyota Corrola and we set off up to Whistler. After a 2 hour trip and not too many stops from the roadworks we arrived in time for an afternoon of boarding and went straight up Blackcomb since we’d never been up there before (we’ve only ever been to Whistler in the springtime when Blackcomb is shut). We had a nice afternnoon bombing about, losing each other and playing in the excellent conditions.

Over the next few days we discovered the joys of symphony ampitheatre in fresh snow…

I think we were extremely lucky with our timing, we had two truly superb days with fresh snow and hardly any people about. The runs down to symphony chair (GS followed by Jeffs ode to joy) are a great start to the day (especially the latter, a lovely little run through the trees). It’s then pretty easy to spend the whole morning putting fresh tracks down through Rhapsody bowl and through the trees at the bottom without even needing to hike over to Flute (though those runs down do look superb). We also found some excellent easy tree riding off Founders run (if I remember correctly) the finish along the creek bed is really good fun too!

All in all we had a wicked few days and I can’t wait to get back again!

Maildir to mbox

March 24th, 2007

I’ve been meaning to blog this for ages…

When we switched from our own server (living under my monitor) to a hosted server in the US (by the way we’re using Eapps and they are fantastic and great value too) I discovered they use mbox format on their server rather than Maildir. “Easy” I thought, “a quick google search will sort that out”. Well it turns out I was very wrong and all the scripts are going the other direction (a much more sensible direction I have to say but I wanted an easy to administer server so I didn’t want to change anything unless I had too).

Eventually I stumbed upon this script (maildirtombox.sh which worked admirably. I’m afraid I can’t remember where I found it but it was written by a guy called Joerg Reinhardt (thanks by the way) so he deserves all the credit.

Long time no blog…

March 24th, 2007

Wow, it has been a long time since I’ve written anything here. Anyway what with traveling for 3 months and moving to Canada from the UK I’ve been rather busy. Now we’re settled in Vancouver, BC and enjoying our new life I’m going to try hard to write more here.
