Snow/Weather Forecasts

January 11th, 2006

Being an avid snowboarder I tend to follow the weather forecasts rather closely at this time of year (anybody who knows me will be laughing at the understatement by now). To do this I’ve built up a collection of favourite websites covering Europe. The following sites are usually fairly accurate…

  • Accuweather do a 15 day forecast like this one for Meribel
  • Snow Forecast do a 3 day(free) or a 6 day(paid) forecast like this one for Meribel
  • The BBC do a useful 5 day synoptic chart
  • The ECMWF have a 7 day synoptic chart
  • The 21st OWS have a useful but rather busy5 day synoptic chart
  • The Natives site provides a good idea of current conditions though no guarantee your resort will be covered
  • You should also keep an eye on Piste Hors to get an idea about the prevailing snow/avalanche conditions
  • Avalanche.net have a useful record of Snow Depths for French resorts
  • If you’re off to Chamonix their local Meteo France Office has a good local weather forecast
  • Weather.com has 10 day forecasts for most French towns like this one for Meribel
  • The Ski Club of Great Britain have a handy Overview of current conditions as well as resort specific reports and historical snow conditions (free registration required)
  • Chamonet has some great information about Chamonix and some first hand snow reports!

What sites do you use?

Waiter Rant

January 11th, 2006

I came accross the Waiter Rant blog via the post about ordering wine. I then read a good chunk of his previous posts. They are well written and for the most part amusing. Certainly renewed my respect for people who work in restaurants and the sh!t they have to put up with from joe public.

Remember:

  • Be friendly, just because someone is serving you it doesn’t make them your servant
  • Tip well (or at least fairly)
