Keyboards I wish I owned

November 11th, 2005

Ok, so this well and truly marks me out as a geek but I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. This is a roughly ordered list of keyboards I’d really like to own.

  1. There is really only one choice for the keyboard all true techies long for. The Optimus keyboard has an OLED screen for each key! Unfortunatly it’s not and may never reach production. If it ever does I’m after 3!
  2. I’ve always wanted to try one of those chording keyboards like the Cykey, £99 is a little much to try something I might hate though. I also suspect they are more geared up to alphanumeric use and coding may be a problem
  3. This flexible keyboard would be a great companion to my laptop when travelling
  4. I’d like to try out a ZBoard, the interchangeable and programmable keys look like an interesting idea
  5. For the hardcore geek you have Das Keyboard. Why hardcore you ask? Well none of the keys have any letters on them!
  6. The DX1 Input System (keyboard is sooo 1990s) has taken customisability a little too far. Looks like it’d be great for gaming though!
  7. I actually have one of these but it’s cool so I’ll include it anyway. The Nokia Wireless Keyboard allows you to connect a keyboard to your phone. I use it to bounce my tomcat instance when I’m out and about
  8. For the geek who has everything how about a virtual keyboard using IR to project the keyboard onto any surface! I can’t imagine you could actually type with it though

And the keyboard I actually use is thisMini Keyboard. It’s actually a really nice keyboard to use once you get used to the Ctrl key being in the wrong place.
