iPodShuffle Update!

February 10th, 2005

Apparently they tried to deliver it yesterday but I wasn’t in (wierd that TNT didn’t leave a card). Looks like I’m off to Luton to pick it up! This will give me a good chance to test the Quest on a longer journey where I don’t know where I’m going and with a via (need to get my RAM from the Post Office first)

What a week!

February 10th, 2005

We had an incredible week in Val Thorens. I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw that much snow. The off-piste was as great as I remembered (especially the stuff up above Mottaret)! We had a good few inches (10 maybe) in the middle of the week which took the conditions from great to superb! This could easily have been the best week snow/weather wise this season! Looks like my lack of snow curse has been lifted :D

When I have a bit more time I’m planning to put together a comprehensive guide to the bits of the Three Valleys I know. Probably consisting of good off-piste spots, good places to build kickers, good runs for beginners etc. We’re off again in March so I’ll do more exploring then too!

Took my Garmin Quest out for a spin

February 10th, 2005

After some wierd problems not being able to load the detail maps onto it (solved by clearing all user data from it). I plotted a route to the Sainsburys in London Colney (strangely it didn’t know about the one in St Albans).

Apart from trying to send me down a road that’s blocked off it did a really good job. It’s quite fun blindly following it’s directions to see where it takes you!
The speaker quality was a little poor but I rectified this by lowering the volume a little (needed to update the firmware and then hold down the “speak” key).
The off-route re-calculation is excellent, it realised quickly and got me back on track in a couple of seconds. I’m looking forward to taking it out on a longer journey!
The sattelite acquisition time (after we’d finished shopping) was so fast I didn’t notice it!
I’ve put in a couple of avoidances (mainly St Albans centre because of the traffic) so it’ll be interesting to see how it routes me around them.

More power Igor!

February 10th, 2005

I caved in and bought half a gig of RAM for my poor bewildered little server. It’s sitting in the post office (the RAM not the server) at the moment so I won’t be abe to install it until the weekend. Hopefully this will ease some of the problems we’ve been having. I only had 5Mb free this morning and at least 5-6 Java processes at ~70Mb!!
